Primary Collection

A Style and Colour can be tagged into more than one Collection at once, for example a hero piece that launches in one season and re-shows in a later one. When that happens, the Primary Collection field on the Item Card marks which of those tagged Collections is the one to treat as authoritative for that SKU, for example when deciding what to send in a feed to a sales channel.

Where it shows​

The Primary Collection field sits alongside the other SKU details on the Item Card. It is read-only there: it always shows the Collection currently marked primary for this SKU's Style and Colour, and is blank if none has been chosen yet.

Because it is scoped to Style and Colour, every Size under the same colourway shows the same Primary Collection. It is not set separately per Size.

Setting it​

Run Set Primary Collection from the Item Card.

  • You are offered a choice among the Collections already tagged to this SKU's Style and Colour. See Tag Styles into a Collection if none are tagged yet: a Collection must be a member before it can be made primary.
  • Picking one sets it as primary and clears whichever Collection held that position before, so a SKU never has more than one Primary Collection at a time.
  • If no Collections are tagged yet, the action tells you there is nothing to choose, and the field stays blank.

If a tag is removed​

If the Collection tag currently marked primary is removed from the Style and Colour, the Primary Collection field goes blank again. It does not carry over to another tagged Collection automatically. Pick a new one with Set Primary Collection if wanted.

Why it matters for feeds​

A SKU that sits in several Collections still only needs to exist once in a downstream channel such as Shopify or a 3PL. Primary Collection gives an export a single, unambiguous answer to "which Collection owns this SKU", so it does not recreate a SKU that already exists there under an earlier Collection.

Doing this at scale​
