How posting works

You don't need to do anything differently when posting a credit memo that uses Credit Only or Credit + Write Off Stock; posting works the same way it always has (Ship and Invoice, Invoice, whichever your process uses). Behind the scenes, for every line not set to Return to Stock:

  1. Immediately before posting, the extension inserts an extra, internal-only line for the same item, location, and variant as your line, with the quantity flipped to negative and the unit price set to zero.
  2. Standard Business Central posting then creates an Item Ledger Entry for both your original line and this internal line, exactly as it would for any two ordinary lines.
  3. For Credit + Write Off Stock specifically, the internal line's resulting entry is re-tagged from "Sale" to "Negative Adjustment" before it posts, for inventory reporting purposes (see Reporting).
  4. The customer ledger and G/L entries for your original line are completely unaffected by any of this; only the item/inventory side is touched.
  5. The internal line is never shown on the document, before or after posting. It exists only for the moment posting happens, to create the offsetting Item Ledger Entry; the Posted Sales Credit Memo lists only the lines you entered. This matches how the same feature behaved under the previous TRIMIT solution.
