Setting Inventory Handling

On a single line

  1. Open a new or existing Sales Credit Memo.
  2. Enter, or find, a line as normal: item, quantity, unit price, and so on.
  3. Locate the Inventory Handling field, positioned immediately after the Quantity field.
  4. Select one of the three options:
    • Return to Stock (the default; leave it alone if this is a genuine physical return)
    • Credit Only - No Stock Change
    • Credit + Write Off Stock
  5. If the line was already linked to a specific inbound receipt (its Appl.-from Item Entry field is set) and you pick anything other than Return to Stock, a confirmation dialog appears explaining that the application will be cleared because the line is no longer a genuine physical return. Choose Yes to proceed, or No to cancel the change and leave the line untouched.
  6. Repeat for every line that needs a non-default handling. Lines you don't touch stay on Return to Stock.

The field is only visible and editable on Credit Memo lines. On Sales Order, Sales Invoice, Sales Return Order, and Sales Quote lines it doesn't appear at all, so there's no risk of accidentally setting it on the wrong document type.

On every line at once

If a credit memo has many lines that should all use the same option, you don't need to set the field line by line.

  1. On the Sales Credit Memo page, find the Set Inventory Handling action, alongside the other processing actions in the ribbon.
  2. Select it. A selection prompt appears with three choices: Return to Stock, Credit Only - No Stock Change, Credit + Write Off Stock. It opens pre-selected to whatever your company's Default Inventory Handling is set to in Sales & Receivables Setup (First-time setup); review that selection rather than assuming it matches what you need for this particular document.
  3. Pick the option you want and confirm.
  4. Every line on the credit memo is updated to that option in one step. Any line that was linked to a specific inbound receipt goes through the same confirm-and-clear behaviour described in On a single line, once per affected line.
  5. You can still go back and adjust individual lines afterwards using the per-line field from On a single line, if one or two lines on an otherwise-uniform credit memo need a different option (see also One credit memo, mixed situations).
